Can you please tell me how to properly perform salaat, perform hajj, find a local mosque, etc.?
Unfortunately, IslamVeg is not a comprehensive Islamic site. Our focus is solely on providing information on animals in Islam and related topics. There are many excellent sites on the Web that can provide you with this information or with other relevant links. We suggest you begin with: http://www.islamicity.com , http://www.shia.org or http://www.ummah.net .How can you suggest that the halal (specified meat and animal products) is haram (forbidden)?
Our Web site in no way implies that those food items indicated as halal in Islam are forbidden for Muslims to consume. We are simply providing information to show that a vegetarian or vegan diet is entirely compatible with Islam. Nowhere in Islam is one required to eat each and every halal food. Rather, believers are free to decide for themselves what to eat, according to their conscience and temperament, from those halal foods. However, current trends and patterns of meat, dairy product, and egg consumption cause the suffering of animals, environmental degradation, and a multitude of health problems. We feel that all these issues are of great concern to all Muslims.
In addition, the methods used currently to raise, transport, and slaughter animals for halal food may well have deviated from accepted methods, and normally halal animal products might in fact be haram in many cases. Adopting a vegan diet ensures that a believer is always eating halal food.Links to fatwas on vegetarianism:
Why are you singling out 'Eid sacrifice? What about Christmas and Thanksgiving?
We fully agree that Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other non-Muslim holidays entail a sacrifice of animals even exceeding that of any 'Eid. The article on our Web site was written by a Muslim to other members of the Ummah to explore animal sacrifice within Islam. PETA continues to campaign vigorously against the cruelty inflicted on animals during Western holidays.
This Web site is just a tool of the West to undermine Islam. It only serves to push PETA's agenda.
Though this Web site is supported by PETA, it was begun at the request of our Muslim members, as well as other Muslims approaching our group for information on animals in Islam. All content is generated by Muslims and sympathetic scholars of Islam. PETA recognizes the abundant Mercy and Compassion found within the Deen of Islam and sees many parallels between its goals and Islamic teachings.
There is absolutely no intention by PETA to attack or undermine Islam . In fact, based on the many responses we receive from non-Muslim visitors to the site, IslamVeg serves to correct many of the media stereotypes of Muslims by showing the depth of compassion found in Islam.
